An Evening for a Village |
 |
On April 12th, 2003, the EAC will be hosting an event
called "An Evening for a Village" at the Langston Hughes
Cultural Arts Center. Langston Hughes is at 17th and
Yesler in Seattle. The event will last from 6pm to 10pm
and will feature the Total Experience Choir, a showing
of "Takaungu: Cultivating Possibilities", and a panel
discussion including three professors from the UW as
well as a board member of the EAC and our filmmaker.
All of this will be taking place in the theatre, while a
silent auction, EAC information tables and refreshments
will be offered as well. The event is free to all, but we
will be extending opportunities for donations throughout
the evening.

Volunteers in Takaungu |
 |
|
In August 2002, the EAC had its first round of
volunteers go to Takaungu Village, Kenya. Frankie
Rolapp, Judd Hardy, Holly Alexander, Christy Nunez and
Luke Beck were phenomenal as they furthered the
establishment of the EAC's Takaungu Primary School
Library, as well as taught a variety of courses at the
local school.
In December, 2002, Holly, Luke and Christy returned to
the US while Jennifer Glick and Jesicah Rolapp joined
Judd and Frankie in the Village. Currently, the four
volunteers are teaching at Takaungu and Vuma Primary
Schools as well as establishing a drama and astronomy
club!
As part of the EAC's volunteer program, we ask our
volunteers to write messages back to the US on a
regular basis covering their recent experiences and/or
their general reflections on their time in Kenya. Their
letters have been beautiful. Currently, we have
seventeen of their letters posted on our website (link
below). I am confident you will find them entertaining
and insiteful. Please check back often because we
continue to post more all the time.

The EAC appreciates... |
 |
|
The Seattle Jaycees! The Seattle Jaycees donate over
$700.00 per month in office space to our organization.
The Jaycees also provide us with our telephone service,
DSL, and electricity. Thanks to the Seattle Jaycees,
the EAC is able to operate with minimal recurring
overhead expenses. Thank You!
The City of Seattle and the City of Tacoma! Both of
these municipalities have donated to the EAC four
computers each. These donations have even further
increased our organization's productivity. Thank You!
Families of our Volunteers! Many of our volunteers'
families have made significant monetary contributions
to our efforts. Thank you for supporting our work.
Thank you also for sharing your loved ones with us in
order to further our mission in Takaungu!
